How to Register a .co.za Domain

Check availability, choose accurate registrant details and confirm the renewal arrangement.

Registering a .co.za domain starts with an availability check, but ownership details and renewals are just as important. A name is not reserved merely because a search result once showed it as available.

Practical steps

  1. Search the complete domain name, including .co.za, in the registration checkout. Check spelling, readability and possible conflicts with existing trademarks.
  2. Review the registration period, current retail price and renewal arrangement. Do not substitute a wholesale reseller price for the retail quote.
  3. Enter accurate registrant and contact details. Use an email address you control and keep access records within the business rather than solely with a contractor.
  4. After registration, set the supplied nameservers or DNS records for your website and email. Record the expiry date and arrange renewal reminders.

Check the result

Confirm that the domain appears in the correct account with the intended contact information. Test website resolution and email after configuration, allowing for existing DNS cache lifetimes.

Before you proceed

A free domain transfer is not free registration or renewal. Also, availability under .co.za does not imply that direct registration under .za is generally offered.
