Managing Client Websites as a Hosting Reseller
Set boundaries for account ownership, support, billing and recovery when hosting sites for clients.
Reselling hosting combines technical administration with customer responsibility. Before onboarding clients, decide who owns domains, who controls accounts and what your agency will support. Clear boundaries prevent routine changes becoming disputes.
Practical steps
- Create an inventory for each client covering domains, websites, mailboxes, billing contacts and agreed services. Keep ownership and transfer rights explicit in approved customer terms.
- Use separate accounts and least-privilege access where supported. Do not share the reseller administrator login with customers or contractors.
- Plan storage and resource allocation, backups, restore procedures and application maintenance. Unlimited account counts do not remove the reseller package's resource constraints.
- Define a support escalation route, renewal reminders and an offboarding procedure. Confirm what data must be exported and who authorises DNS or account cancellation.
Check the result
Test a new client's website, email and access before handing it over. Periodically review unused accounts, expired access and restore readiness against the customer inventory.
Before you proceed
White-label hosting does not automatically include customer billing software, custom website support or compliance guarantees. Confirm each component before selling it as part of your own package.
