A Small Business Website Launch Checklist

Prepare your domain, content, email and enquiry route before publishing a business website.

A first business website should make it easy to understand your service and contact a real person. Technical completeness matters more than adding pages that repeat the same sales terms. Plan ownership and maintenance before launch.

Practical steps

  1. Register the domain under the correct business or authorised owner, using an email address that remains reachable if the website is offline. Record renewal dates and access responsibilities.
  2. Publish accurate services, prices where appropriate, contact details and service areas. Use photographs and testimonials only when you have permission, and include required business and privacy information.
  3. Choose hosting and email allowances that fit the current site. Set up HTTPS, a backup process and a real enquiry route, then test the site on a small phone screen.
  4. Check that every important page links to another relevant page. Review spelling, opening hours, external checkout links and the destination of every enquiry button.

Check the result

Ask someone unfamiliar with the business to find a service, understand the cost and contact you. Verify the enquiry arrives and that the person receives an accurate confirmation.

Before you proceed

Do not display a success message for a form that does not send data. A clearly labelled link to a working support or email channel is better than a simulated submission.
