How to Set Up Hosted Email in Apple Mail
Connect macOS or iPhone Mail using verified server settings without bypassing TLS warnings.
Apple Mail can access compatible hosted mailboxes on macOS and iPhone, but the exact account screens vary by operating-system version. Use the settings assigned to your mailbox instead of assuming the website domain is also the mail hostname.
Practical steps
- Collect the account username, incoming and outgoing hosts, ports, encryption modes and authentication requirements. Confirm whether an application password is needed.
- Add a supported mail account through Mail or the device's account settings. Enter the full mailbox identity and use manual configuration when discovery is incorrect.
- Set incoming and outgoing authentication according to the provider's instructions. Keep TLS enabled and investigate any certificate-name mismatch rather than accepting an unknown certificate.
- Review Sent, Drafts, Archive and Trash mappings and choose a synchronisation approach appropriate to the device. Preserve local-only messages before deleting an old account.
Check the result
Send to an external address, reply and compare folder contents with webmail. Test on both Wi-Fi and mobile data if the mailbox works on one network but not the other.
Before you proceed
Removing an account can remove messages stored only on the device. Back up or export those messages before resetting settings or replacing the account.
